Leclaire bol draftovaný v prvom kole v roku 2001 ako celkovo ôsmy v poradí klubom Columbus Blue Jackets V drese Blue Jackets debutoval v NHL.
Vyhral striebro na Majstrovstvách sveta juniorov 2001, bol členom All-Star Teamu turnaja a bol vyhlásený aj za najlepšieho brankára turnaja.
V roku 2008 získal striebro na Majstrovstvách Sveta.
V roku 1998 získal v tíme Halifax Mooseheads ocenenie za najnižší gólový priemer v lige QMJHL.[1]
