Marin Mersenne
Marin Mersenne, Marin Mersennus alebo le Père Mersenne (* 8. september 1588, Oizé, Francúzsko – † 1. september 1648, Paríž) bol francúzsky matematik, filozof, hudobný teoretik a teológ, ktorý okrem iného objavil Mersennovo prvočíslo. Niekedy je nazývaný "otec akustiky".[1]

Koncept ponorky
Mersenne spolu s jezuitom Georgesom Fournierom vytvoril na konci 30 rokov 17. storočia koncept obrnenej ponorky, vybavenej kolesami pre pohyb po morskom dne. Koncept obsahoval i vzdušné pumpy a formu vnútorného osvetlenia interiéru na báze fluorescencie.[2]
