V roku 2010 spolu s Petrom A. Diamondom a Christopherom A. Pissaridesom získal Cenu švédskej národnej banky za rozvoj ekonomickej vedy na pamiatku Alfreda Nobela za "analýzu trhov práce zaťažených náklady na vyhľadávanie".[5] Zaoberal sa trhom práce a makroekonómiou.
